Artist Bio
Darren Douglas Floyd was born in Ann Arbor, MI in 1972. He received his B.A. in Women’s Studies from the College of Wooster in 1994 and his M.F.A. in Film and Media Arts from Temple University in 2001. Darren is an artist whose studio practice combines 2D and 3D animation, digital drawing and zine production to interrogate masculinity. CancerGram, his 2017 Instagram diary based on having stage 4 cancer, is an experimental storytelling practice disseminated through social media. His 2020 social media essay, Drastic Treatment, considers the Donald Trump era through the lens of androgen deprivation therapy. His current project is an attempt to liberate animation from the computer lab, utilizing mobile platforms for site-specific and en plein air animation.
